Other Than Your Relationship with God, Your Wife Must Be Your Relationship Priority

Other Than Your Relationship with God, Your Wife Must Be Your Relationship Priority

August 31, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY:

Other than your relationship with God, your wife must be your relationship priority – what your whole life-focus should be about. In Genesis 2:24, God established the framework for the relationship and life-focus between husband and wife: “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.”. Paul, in Ephesians 5:25, expresses God’s expectations for the husband in his relationship with his wife: “Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her.”. Faithfulness to your wife involves the quality of your relationship, but it involves all aspects of your relationship -- adultery is the ultimate act of unfaithfulness. In Mathew 19:4-7, Jesus repeats God’s instructions from Genesis 2:24; but Jesus makes clear, in Matthew 19:6b, that Marriage demands: “What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”. Many things can get in the way of your relationship with your wife; therefore, your wife must be your relationship focus. The world, the country, your friends, and your family have so many issues and hurts for which Jesus and His Gospel are the answer; but we keep this good news a secret by our unwillingness to live a visible life walking the talk of the Gospel and sharing the Gospel. Do you have the faith and courage and are you willing to share the Gospel? If you do, then pray for God’s guidance to you for His will and role for you.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will seek God’s perspective on my situation. For I know that in all things God works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (From Romans 8:28).

Material Gift Responsibility Indicates to God That You Will Be Responsible for His Spiritual Gifts

Material Gift Responsibility Indicates to God That You Will Be Responsible for His Spiritual Gifts

August 30, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Many of us, while seeking to know the Lord better, also, want to know His will in our lives and in the world while going deeper in our relationship. Additionally, we want to be filled with the Holy Spirit. In Mathew 6:19-21, Jesus is telling us that all that we have comes from God; God has expectations for our good management of His resources in our personal relationship with Him: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.". To this end, God is saying to some of us to start being responsible for the material things that He has provided. Also, we are to be good managers of His gifts. God is telling us that if we can’t be responsible for the earthly treasures, that He has provided us, then how can we be responsible for His Spiritual treasures in a deepening personal relationship with Him.?

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO “Do You, Like the Apostle Thomas, Sometimes Not Recognize Who Jesus Is? Do You Believe?”

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO “Do You, Like the Apostle Thomas, Sometimes Not Recognize Who Jesus Is? Do You Believe?”

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO

MESSAGE SUMMARY:

Jesus’ Promise of Belief (St. Thomas Anglican Church, Athens GA)

Important questions were asked by Jesus in His several appearances after His Resurrection. Jesus, knowing the Apostle Thomas’ disbelief without physical evidence of His Resurrection, in John 20:27, asked Thomas to feel His wounds. Afterwards Jesus asked Thomas the implied question of Thomas’ “belief” and who Thomas believed that Jesus was; and Thomas answered with an answer that has resonated throughout the centuries: “My Lord and my God!”: “Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here, and see my hands; and put out your hand, and place it in my side. Do not disbelieve, but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’”.

Earlier, Jesus was asked by Thomas where Jesus was going, and Jesus, in John 14:5-6 gave Thomas the answer upon which the Christian faith is built: “Thomas said to him, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”.

Jesus went on to affirm Thomas’ belief in the face of compelling physical evidence, but Jesus acknowledged the power of the belief and faith by those of us who follow Him without physical evidence. So, for us who do not have the physical evidence of Jesus’ death and Resurrection, Paul tells us, in Romans 10:17, that: “So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ.”.

Do you believe?

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Inadequacy. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Abundance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

In Tough Times, Don’t Drift Away from Your Personal Relationship with Jesus – call on Him

In Tough Times, Don’t Drift Away from Your Personal Relationship with Jesus – call on Him

August 28, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARYJesus will hold your hand and walk along beside you in your trials and tribulations. In your tough times, be careful that you don’t drift away from your personal relationship with Jesus. Jesus is the Lord. Jesus is Sovereign over the Universe. Jesus really cares for you. If you will remember what you have been taught about Jesus, it will help you deal with your tough life circumstances: “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus," (Philippians 4:6-7). Remembering Jesus’ Sovereignty and character will help you in your times of trouble and stress.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I press on toward His goal for me. (Philippians 3:12f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14).

Does Jesus’ Gospel Warrant Your Personal Sacrifice If You Were Threatened for Your Faith?

Does Jesus’ Gospel Warrant Your Personal Sacrifice If You Were Threatened for Your Faith?

August 27, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: What have you, personally, sacrificed for the Gospel? Some have lost jobs, friendships, and family members because of their faith. Others, outside of the US, are losing their lives following the Gospel of Jesus the Christ. For example, the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) reports that 6,000 Christians were killed between January and June 2018 in Nigeria. What have you sacrificed for the gospel? You cannot earn your Salvation by your actions like standing up for your faith – Salvation is provided to you by God though His Grace and your faith. Paul, in Philippians 2:8-11, posits the Gospel’s intended impact for followers of Jesus: “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.". However, there is a joy to you when you sacrifice something in your life for Jesus and the Gospel rather than always living for yourself. What have you sacrificed for the Gospel – Jesus gave His all for you?

If You Have Not Let Your Faith Atrophy, Look to Jesus in Your Troubles

If You Have Not Let Your Faith Atrophy, Look to Jesus in Your Troubles

August 25, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: In many ways, your faith is like a muscle – both your muscles and your faith will atrophy if you don’t use them. In the ministry, we often hear comments like: “Some time ago, I walked with the Lord and He spoke to me; but now I am not even sure I believe any more.”. This falling away from the Lord is, often, a result of faith not being exercised. In Hebrews 2:1-3, you are told that when the storms of life come, you are to look to Jesus – use your faith and always look to Jesus: “Therefore we must pay much closer attention to what we have heard, lest we drift away from it. For since the message declared by angels proved to be reliable, and every transgression or disobedience received a just retribution, how shall we escape if we neglect such a great salvation? It was declared at first by the Lord, and it was attested to us by those who heard,". In whom and in what is the focus of your faith today?

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9).

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO: “What Price Will You Pay, Personally, for Others to Know Jesus’ Gospel?”

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO: “What Price Will You Pay, Personally, for Others to Know Jesus’ Gospel?”

August 23, 2019

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO

MESSAGE SUMMARY:

Do You Have the Faith and Courage and Are You Willing to Share the Gospel? (Resurrection Anglican Church; Woodstock, GA)

To what extent are you willing to share with others your relationship with Jesus? What price are you willing to pay, personally, so that others may know the good news of Jesus – the Gospel? What are you willing to go through to advance the Kingdom of God? In Ephesians 3:1-2, the Apostle Paul summarizes the price that he joyfully accepts to carry the news of the Gospel to the Nations: “For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner for Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentile -- assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God's grace that was given to me for you.". Paul was in prison facing a trial by the despotic Emperor of Rome, Nero. However, you may never have to go to prison or face death to communicate the Gospel; but you will face both physical and emotional discomfort as you become a visible follower of Jesus. While articulating the Gospel to others is important, the most effective way to communicate the Gospel is not by what you say but how you live – walk the talk and let others see Jesus in you.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be ashamed of the Gospel. I will not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (including me). (From Romans 1:16).

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO: “Courage & Spiritual Strength Come from Having God With You and In You”

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO: “Courage & Spiritual Strength Come from Having God With You and In You”

August 23, 2019

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO

MESSAGE SUMMARY:  Be Strong & Courageous (Commencement -- Reformed Episcopal Seminary; Oreland, PA)

We have been equipped, as God told Jeremiah in Jeremiah 29:11-12, for God’s purposes in our lives: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the LORD, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you.". In Joshua 1:9, God commands us to be strong and courageous because He is with us: “Be strong and courageous, for you shall cause this people to inherit the land that I swore to their fathers to give them.". When we obey God’s commands, He steps into lives with His support for us to achieve His commands.

Courage is acting and speaking even though you are afraid. If you follow God’s call and seek His will to live and act in His Word, there is no reason to be overcome by fear because “your God is with you wherever you go”. After God’s grace through Jesus, God is in us through His gift to us of the Holy Spirit. You get strong by exercising the “muscles” of your faith and commitment to God’s will and His word – often pushing your “commitment to God” beyond levels you thought possible. Spiritual strength comes from having God with you and in you.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Evil Ways. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Goodness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

When Difficulties Arise Testing Your Faith, Remember God Will Never Leave of Forsake You

When Difficulties Arise Testing Your Faith, Remember God Will Never Leave of Forsake You

August 22, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARY: While you are endeavoring to hold onto your faith in God and Jesus’ Gospel, you need to always remember the faithfulness of God, even in those times in which you may be doubting or questioning your faith. When the Apostles questioned Jesus about faith and prayer, Jesus told the Apostles, in Mathew 21:21-22, that your faith is powerful and that God will respond to your faith: “And Jesus answered them, ‘Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.’”. Hold, unswervingly, to the hope and faith you profess because God, who promised us, is faithful. God will never leave you or forsake you even when difficulties arise and you are tempted to walk away from your faith. When you are tempted to doubt God, remember that God is faithful. Don’t give up your faith!

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Lust. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Perfect Provision. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

As a Christian, Jesus Helps You Overcome Your Weaknesses

As a Christian, Jesus Helps You Overcome Your Weaknesses

August 21, 2019

MESSAGE SUMMARYGod makes you a new creation through your new heart created by an indwelling of the Holy Spirit in your life. God is interested in your heart, and He wants you to have a righteous heart– God changes your thinking and your attitude through a change in your heart. In Romans 8:26-27, Paul describes the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in followers of Jesus resulting in a new person, with a new heart, in Jesus: “Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.". As a follower of Jesus, you are salt and light, comes from your righteousness – not just in deed and appearance but, also, in your inner person -- your heart.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be a complainer (Philippians 2:14). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14).
