We Are All Sinners; But Sinners that Follow Jesus Have a Way Out
Friday Aug 09, 2019
Friday Aug 09, 2019
MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus died for you and your sinful nature. It is through the death and Resurrection of Jesus that you are offered the forgiveness of your sins and an inner healing in your life. In John 10:27-28, Jesus reiterates His commitment to those who commit their lives to Him and are His followers: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they will never perish, and no one will snatch them out of my hand.". Some Christians mess up because Christians, too, are sinners. However, Jesus gave you a pathway out from the burden of your sins. In Matthew 26:27-28, Jesus, again, reaffirmed His commitment to His followers through the Holy Eucharist: “And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, ‘Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.’".
Many non-Christians profess that the reason they choose not to believe and follow Jesus is that they “only see people in churches and those professing to be ‘Christians’ as ‘hypocrites’”. We all have been offered the forgiveness of our sins by God’s Grace, through Jesus, by our faith in Jesus and our confession of sins. However, those refusing to follow Jesus, for whatever reason, have made the personal choice not to follow Jesus and accept His offer of Salvation and Eternal Life. Since we are all sinners, what better place to find sinners than in a church where “Christian sinners” are attempting to live a new life by following Jesus and His Gospel of faith and Salvation. Yes, churches do have “hypocrites” in its total group of sinners. However, unlike those who refuse to follow Jesus because they see Jesus followers as “hypocrites”, “Christian hypocrites”, like other sinners, have a way out through their faith, confessions, and a commitment to trying to live a sinless life. Do you have an excuse not to follow Jesus?
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Procrastination. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Self-Control. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

When Was the Last Time You Spoke of the Gospel and Your Salvation to Others?
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
Thursday Aug 08, 2019
MESSAGE SUMMARY: God has saved you so that you can be His ambassador to others. While blessing you so that you might be a blessing to other people; God has healed you so that you might bring God's healing powers to others. Jesus commissions you in Matthew 28;19-20 as He commissioned His Apostles just before His Ascension: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.". The Gospel is the answer; but, often, you keep this answer to yourself. This selfishness is manifested by your not speaking of the Gospel and your Salvation and by the way that you live your life and communicate your faith. Walk the walk; talk the talk; and share Jesus with other people. Peter tells you, in 1 Peter 3:15, how you are to witness with the Gospel’s answer: “but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.”.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Inadequacy. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Abundance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

Because You Are a Follower of Jesus, You Have a Direct Personal Relationship with God
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
Wednesday Aug 07, 2019
MESSAGE SUMMARY: Before Jesus, the only way that God could be approached, directly, was through the prayers of the “High Priest” in the Throne Room of the Temple. After Jesus, you have a direct personal relationship with God as a follower of Jesus and through your prayers. Therefore, you enter God’s “Throne Room” directly with no need for a “High Priest” intercessor. Because Jesus was both human and God, He was tempted as a human; but Jesus did not sin. Therefore, you can have faith that Jesus is your source of Mercy and Grace in your times of sin and trouble! The author of Hebrews, in Hebrews 4:14-16, identifies Jesus, for Christians, as the sinless, yet tempted, God-Man who is our Great High Priest: “Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus, the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need." Jesus is the perfect and “Great High Priest”. Therefore, it is important for you to know that you can approach His Throne of Grace with confidence because Jesus is merciful. It is important to reflect upon Jesus being tempted as a human – like us. By his being tempted as our Great High Priest, we can receive mercy and find grace in our times of need.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus Christ, He will supply all my needs. (Philippians 4:19). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14).

In Your Temptation, God Will Provide the Way for Your Escape
Tuesday Aug 06, 2019
Tuesday Aug 06, 2019
MESSAGE SUMMARY: Temptation is not sin; but yielding to temptation results in your sin. In Jesus' temptation, He has shown you how to face your temptations. When Jesus was tempted, He quoted Scripture; the most powerful weapon that God has given you – as Paul directed us in Ephesians 6:17-18: "In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God . . .”. Also, Paul, in 1 Corinthians 10:13, tells you that, like Jesus, all humans are tempted to sin; but, also like Jesus, God will not let you be tempted beyond your capability to respond to the temptation in sin: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.".
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Compulsions. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Patience. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO: “Marriage – A Current Assessment”

DEVOTIONAL VIDEO
MESSAGE SUMMARY:
Marriage – A Current Assessment (Christ the King Anglican Church; Birmingham, AL)
Marriage and the family, in current decades, have been under attack to the degree that marriage is now losing its value in our culture. In Mark 10:6-9, Jesus speaks to God’s plan for marriage: “But from the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’ ‘Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let not man separate.’”
In our culture’s attacks on marriage and the family, we see ten ways in which marriage and the family have been and are being perverted: 1) US Supreme Court’s decision on same sex marriage – as followers of Jesus, we don’t believe the courts have the right to define/redefine marriage as established by God; 2) sex before marriage is becoming the norm; 3) sex outside of marriage has become acceptable; 4) the prevalence of divorce; 5) acceptance of cohabitation; 6) birth of children out of wedlock; 7) multi-spouse marriage; 8) escalation and the acceptance of pornography; 9) the acceptance and practice of abortion on demand; and 10) the acceptable “choosing” one’s own gender by some people. These perversions of marriage and the family are chipping away at the value and importance of marriage and the family in the US – even among Christians. Too many of our Christian young people don’t know why they should get married -- this diminution of marriage’s value is a failure, mostly, of the Christian Church.
God’s plan for marriage is being, increasingly, perverted. Therefore, what should we do, as followers of Jesus, about these “attacks on marriage”? We can: 1) stand up, speak up and speak God’s truth – Christians need to stop be trampled upon by this divergent culture; 2) model good and Godly marriage and family life to the culture; 3) you teach your children, you not the church/school/government, about God and His plan for marriage and the family; and 4) pray and ask God to intervene in these attacks and to support our seeking to achieve His plan for our own marriage and the family – prayer does change things, and it brings the power of God. However, we, as followers of Jesus, hold the key to stopping this perversion though getting our own family and marriage in line with God’s plan and then witnessing and voting to stop this perversion – the time is now.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

MESSAGE SUMMARY: He {Jesus} desires to bring healing into your life. From Isaiah 53:4-5: “Surely he has borne our grief and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes {i.e. wounds} we are healed.”. What Jesus did for us brings healing to the body as well. God is in the healing business, and In Matthew 8:16-17, Jesus healed many at Peter’s house fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy: “That evening they brought to him many who were oppressed by demons, and he cast out the spirits with a word and healed all who were sick. This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: ‘He took our illnesses and bore our diseases.’”
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (Luke 11:13).

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Jesus is the firstborn of all creation; and in Him, all the fullness of Deity lives in bodily form. This position, of Jesus’ Deity, is quite different from the teachings of Islam, Judaism, Mormonism, the New Age, or the Universalist. These statements, from Paul to the Colossians in Colossians 1:15, solidifies Jesus’ Deity: “He {Jesus} is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation." form the crux of Christianity. In Jesus, God fully dwells. Again, in Colossians 2:9-10, Paul reminds us of Jesus’ ultimate Deity: “For in him the whole fullness of deity dwells bodily, and you have been filled in him, who is the head of all rule and authority.". God expects your faith and belief in Jesus’ Deity in return for God’s forgiveness that results from Jesus’ sacrificial Crucifixion, Resurrection, and God’s Grace.
TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will seek God’s perspective on my situation. For I know that in all things God works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (From Romans 8:28).

MESSAGE SUMMARY: The purpose of Jesus’ death on the cross was to sacrifice Himself to provide you a sacrifice, God’s required blood sacrifice, for your sins which you could not do for yourself. In Romans 5:18-21, Paul succinctly explains Jesus’ unique role, that only Jesus could play, in our Justification and Salvation – a role that begins with God’s Grace: “Therefore, as one trespass led to condemnation for all men, so one act of righteousness leads to justification and life for all men. For as by the one man's disobedience the many were made sinners, so by the one man's obedience the many will be made righteous. Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.". Jesus’ blood made His death, which He experienced for you, provide restitution; make atonement; and pay the death penalty for your sins. Someone must pay for your sins – either you must pay, or Jesus does pay. If you pay for your sins, it means your eternal condemnation and alienation from God; without your eternal life. If Jesus pays for your sins, it means personal forgiveness and a personal relationship with God during your earthly life and an eternal life and an eternal relationship with God. Jesus death and Resurrection were for the forgiveness of your sins and all sins; for all people that chose God’s Grace through Jesus; and for all time,

Becoming a Follower of Jesus Brings You Immediate Eternal Life
Thursday Aug 01, 2019
Thursday Aug 01, 2019
MESSAGE SUMMARY: First of all, the moment you become a follower of Jesus, you have immediate Eternal Life; and you become a Citizen of Heaven. Jesus tells us, in John 5:24, that His followers have Eternal Life and are Citizens of Heaven here on earth living their earthly lives: “Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life.". As Christians and Citizens of Heaven, we know that the Lord is coming back -- either to greet us when we die or before we die at His Second Coming. For most of us, however, our vision of Heaven is clouded by looking backwards; therefore, the return of Jesus does not have any power in our life. Paul reinforces the return of the Lord of Heaven in Philippians 1:6: “And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.". When Jesus returns, we will put on our spiritual bodies, as promised. As Jesus tells us in Matthew 4:17: “From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, ‘Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”.
