God Wants to Help. Do You Turn to God, Through Prayer, in Your Times of Need?

God Wants to Help. Do You Turn to God, Through Prayer, in Your Times of Need?

September 30, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: God desires to walk with us and to help us, but God does not provide us with this support unless we pray and ask Him. James, the brother of Jesus and the author of James 5:13-16, succinctly describes prayer and its power for the followers of Jesus: “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise. Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the one who is sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.”. Prayer gives us the ability to directly with God, the Creator of the Universe. Therefore, why not take advantage of the gift of this incredible God communication tool – Prayer. Just do it – just pray and ask God for His help. The only way to learn how to pray is just do it – just pray with your heart. Prayer is just you and our Lord in conversation – a conversation that God wants to have with you.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, JesusI AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRITIf you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! (Luke 11:13).

In Your Life’s Difficulties, Your Discernment of God’s Will Should Be Your Focus

In Your Life’s Difficulties, Your Discernment of God’s Will Should Be Your Focus

September 29, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: Many of us are living in difficult times with the possibility of losing everything. Don’t give up on the will of God no matter your difficulties or your life situation. As Paul tells us in Romans 12:2 regarding God’s will for our lives: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”. One of God’s character attributes is that God does not change. In 1 John 2:17, the Apostle John points out that God’s will for us does not change; and our discernment of His will should be our life-focus: “And the world is passing away along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”. God is faithful. God’s provision for your needs may not look like what you expected, but He will provide for your needs. Strive to seek God’s will for your life and strive to live in His will.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ I will seek God’s perspective on my situation For I know that in all things God works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. (From Romans 8:28).

What Would Happen If You Lived Your Life Like Jesus?

What Would Happen If You Lived Your Life Like Jesus?

September 28, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARYPaul, in Titus 3:4-8, powerfully lays out that we, as Christians, receive our Salvation through our faith and God’s Grace; however, we are given the opportunity to mirror Jesus in our actions and works: “But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life. The saying is trustworthy, and I want you to insist on these things, so that those who have believed in God may be careful to devote themselves to good works. These things are excellent and profitable for people.". What would happen, if the next time you are in the grocery store, you see a young family in need at the register and you pay their bill? Or, what would happen if you paid the bill of a young family in line behind you at a fast food restaurant? Or, what would happen if you got in your car and visited the shut-ins living in your community? Or, what would happen if you went next door and actually met, got to know, and helped your neighbor? If we want to be real Christians, then we need to follow the “Great Commission” set forth by Jesus, for us, in Matthew 28:19-20: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”"

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Inconsistencies. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Faithfulness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

Are You Passionate In Your Life as a Christian?

Are You Passionate In Your Life as a Christian?

September 27, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARYMost of us had great passion in our lives as we approached the age to get our driver’s license or the age of eighteen when we would be an “adult”. Why don’t we have the same kind of passion about our spiritual life? Why don’t we want to grow up and mature in the Lord? Living in the Holy Spirit sets us apart from our fellow human beings who are living without the Christ. As Paul tells us, in Titus2:11-13, we must focus on living a Godly life while, also, living our life in the Holy Spirit: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.”. We have the capacity to live like no one else because we have presence of God in our lives through the person of the Holy Spirit.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Inadequacy. Rather, I will abide in the Lord’s Abundance. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5).

God Is Not Tangible, but God is Real; and He Will Be Worshiped in Spirit and Truth

God Is Not Tangible, but God is Real; and He Will Be Worshiped in Spirit and Truth

September 26, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: As Jesus, in John 4:23-26, tells the woman of Samaria by the well: “But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.” The woman said to him, ‘I know that Messiah is coming (he who is called Christ). When he comes, he will tell us all things.’ Jesus said to her, ‘I who speak to you am he.’”. Not just God but the Father will be worshiped in Spirit and in Truth. The father desires the kind of worshipers that worship in the Holy Spirit and worshipers that worship in Truth – not a façade but a reality and an honesty before God. God is Spirit, and His worshippers must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth because Jesus told us, in John 14:6: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’". We serve a God who is Spirit, in His essence, as well as The Truth.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that, because I am in Jesus ChristNothing compares with knowing Jesus. (Philippians 3:7f). “I can do everything through Him who gives me strength.”. (Philippians 4:14).

Have You Sacrificed for Your Faith in the Gospel?

Have You Sacrificed for Your Faith in the Gospel?

September 25, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: What have we, personally, sacrificed for the Gospel? Some of us have lost jobs, friendships, and family members because of our faith. What have you sacrificed for the gospel? We cannot earn our Salvation by our actions like standing up for our faith – Salvation is provided by God though His Grace and our faith. Paul, in Philippians 2:8-11, posits the Gospel’s intended impact for followers of Jesus: “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.". However, there is a joy to us when we sacrifice something in our lives for Jesus and the Gospel rather than always living for ourselves. What have you sacrificed for the Gospel – Jesus gave His all for you?

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONToday, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my AnxietyRather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Peace. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).

As a Professing Christian, Do You Live Like the Unbeliever Next Door

As a Professing Christian, Do You Live Like the Unbeliever Next Door

September 24, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARYAs professing Christians, but in our non-Christian behavior, we are mean; we are angry; we are judgmental; and we are selfish and self-centered. Also, in our non-Christian behavior, we are often in bondage to debt, drugs, and extramarital sex. In all these behaviors, we are not different from the unbeliever next door. We need to ask ourselves: “Am I being faithful to Jesus Christ; what needs to change in me and my life; and how am I disobeying the Lord?”. God has promised us that, even though our lives become enmeshed in sin and without our relationship with Him, God will return to us if we return to Him as God promised in Zachariah 1:3: “Therefore say to them, Thus declares the LORD of hosts: Return to me, says the LORD of hosts, and I will return to you, says the LORD of hosts.”. If enough of us get serious with God and return to Him, then God will heal us and this land.

Jesus, Who Is Without Sin, Took Our Sin

Jesus, Who Is Without Sin, Took Our Sin

September 23, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: When, on the cross, Jesus cried out: “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?” (Matthew 27:46, b), it was the only time, in all eternity, that Jesus had been separated from the Father. Jesus had always known perfect fellowship with the Father; but when He took on all our sin, His fellowship with God was broken. God, the Father, had forsaken Jesus because God cannot have anything to do with sin. Paul, in Romans 5:15, summarizes Jesus’ sacrifice and the resulting gift of His Grace available to us from our faith: “But the free gift is not like the trespass. For if many died through one man's trespass, much more have the grace of God and the free gift by the grace of that one man Jesus Christ abounded for many.”. Again, Paul reminds us, in 2 Corinthians 5:21, of the Grace resulting from Jesus’ sacrifice: "For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.".

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, JesusI AM FORGIVEN. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9).

Should You Be Anxious or Afraid?

Should You Be Anxious or Afraid?

September 22, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARY: If the Lord is my helper and confident, why should I be afraid? What can man do to me? For this confidence, we must know who Jesus is – both in our heart and in our mind. He is the Son of God – God in the flesh. As Paul tells us in Philippians 4:4: “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.". Therefore, I don’t have to worry about troubling circumstances in my life because I know that He is with me; and He will guide me no matter how dark my life seems. Jesus is the light that shines in darkness.  As Jesus tells us in Luke 12:4-5, when we have anxiety and fear in our lives, is this anxiety derivative of the right kind of fear: “I tell you, my friends, do not fear those who kill the body, and after that have nothing more that they can do. But I will warn you whom to fear: fear him who, after he has killed, has authority to cast into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him!”. When we are faced with life’s tragedies and the anxieties that result from just living our lives, Jesus can turn those situations and our fears into ways and results that we cannot fathom or understand; but we can certainly appreciate – why not give God a chance to walk with you in all your life situations -- good and bad? Ultimately, the Psalmist got it right in Psalm 23:4: “Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.".

TODAY’S AFFIRMATIONI affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ I will not be ashamed of the GospelI will not be ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ for it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes (including me). (From Romans 1:16).

Because of Jesus’ Resurrection Your Faith Is Not Misplaced

Because of Jesus’ Resurrection Your Faith Is Not Misplaced

September 21, 2018

MESSAGE SUMMARYIf Jesus had not been raised from dead, our faith would be misplaced. The Resurrection is our means, through God’s Grace, for the forgiveness from our sins. In Luke 24:25-26, Jesus reveals Himself, after His Resurrection, to Cleopas on the road to Emmaus and summarizes the criticality of the Resurrection to God’s plan for His Kingdom: “He said to them, ‘O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?’”. The Anglican Book of Common Prayer posits in its A Prayer of General Thanksgiving: ".:. but above all for thine inestimable love in the redemption of the world by our Lord Jesus Christ, for the means of grace, and for the hope of glory . . .". The Resurrection Critical to our Christian Faith.

TODAY’S AFFIRMATION: Today, because of I am filled with the Holy Spirit, I will not be controlled by my Evil Ways. Rather, I will walk in the Spirit’s fruit of Goodness. “The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.” (Galatians 5:22f).
